Micro Insurance
AIID is interested in the potential of micro insurance products that serve communities considered risky by the formal sectors in Africa. AIID will work and co-invest with like-minded partners to model sustainable methods of insurance and resilient delivery systems that are cost effective.
Product Developement
The tradition of top down methods product development common at corporate headquarters has not resulted in sustainable offerings for rural and micro markets in Africa. Products developed by expert groups that lack grassroot understanding tend to fail following expensive market entry displays. All approach product development from the community perspective.
Channel Developement
Traditional models of insurance distribution have not been successful in frontier and micro markets. Poor reach, lack of community trust and high transaction costs have been found to be major challenges that question sustainability. A decade of implementation in Northern Kenya has been proven that unique and inclusive channel design is necessary for sustainable cost effective reach of frontier and micro markets. AIID specializes in developing sustainable channel models that combine innovative technology and community ownership.
Implementation: Pilot & Scale
Implementing micro insurance products in rural markets in Africa has been found to be an unsustainable costly affair. Poor infrastructure dis-aggregated mobile communities and harsh climatic conditions conspire to make traditional distribution channels costly and in effective.
